Back in New Orleans
Flashback to August 2005. New Orleans was a great city to live in. I had a good job with a web marketing company, lived only few blocks from both the St. Charles streetcar and Tipitina’s (THE New Orleans music shack), and had practically a standing tee time at Audubon Park.
Weeks later my wife and I were jamming our Dodge Durango with whatever would fit, leaving the rest of our stuff, and our former lives, behind with the rest of the devastation of post-Katrina New Orleans.
Back to 2008 and I’m back in New Orleans for the first time in over three years. Within my first hour in town, I was boogying to the second-line sounds of Rebirth Brass Band playing a free Thursday show in a jam-packed Lafayette Square. I had been to these weekly events before, but I thought those days were gone. With a cold beer in my hand and funk in my ears, I almost cried when the St. Charles streetcar crawled slowly by behind the stage. New Orleans is alive again.
I’ve got food to eat, bevvies to consume, and some golf to play.
