Ernie Els on Seve
Reacting to the news of Seve Ballesteros’ brain tumor, Ernie Els was quoted along with several European Tour stars in an article by Alistair Tait at Golfweek.com:
“I don’t think golf has ever seen anything like Seve,” Ernie Els said. “Tiger Woods is a huge draw but there’s been no one with Seve’s charisma. Even when he wasn’t in contention for a tournament people would rather watch him than the leaders.”
Els’ last point was true in October 2001 when Sept. 11 played havoc with the World Match Play Championship. Ballesteros, Nick Faldo and Ian Woosnam were drafted in as last minute replacements for American players unwilling to travel.
