Ultimate Hawaiian Golf Resorts - Four Seasons Hualalai

The Four Seasons Resort at Hualalai on the Big Island of Hawaii is really only related to a high-end sports car in the following way: when one regretfully completes a stay there, there’s a compulsion to stop, turn to the camera, and as Ferris Bueller says after his day cruising around Chicago in a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California…

“It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.”

It is the nature of an exclusive resort that only the fortunate few can afford to indulge in its luxuries, which is, of course, too bad in the sense that most people will never have the chance to enjoy the opulence of such places as the Four Seasons Hualalai. On the other hand, if everyone could spare that kind of change, it would be much more difficult to get a tee time at Hualalai…and the roads of America would be jammed with Ferraris.

From The Golf Fanatic’s Guide to Hawaii:

For laid-back luxury in one of the world’s most beautiful settings, there are few options that can rival the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai. Accommodations are the definition of “low-rise,” with dozens of two-story bungalows spread across the resort, rather than a single concrete mass. The resort is only minutes from the airport and the bustle of Kailua-Kona, but the feeling is more of a Robinson Crusoe-style modern beach resort that feels worlds away from everyday life.
Guest rooms are large and plush, with indoor and outdoor showers, as well as a bath. All rooms are fitted with wide-screen flat-panel TVs and high speed Internet access, so you’re only as isolated from the world as you choose to be.

The Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course at Hualalai is for guests only, which usually means there’s few blockages ahead of you and little pressure from behind. The course plays up and down black, Kohala Coast lava flows, and features large, simple green complexes that are nevertheless always difficult to read.

Also, some insiders say if you ask really nicely, you may gain access to the Weiskopf design next door, which is private for the use of the homeowners in the area. Don’t be afraid to act like Ferris, and tip the attendant.
